Steve Newman was a teacher and track coach for over 51 years, working with kids at Attleboro High School, Bishop Feehan High School and Wheaton College, as well as running the local Attleboro Teen Center. By mentoring kids and building their confidence, he was able to give them the tools they needed to realize their full potential. His kindness and generosity have changed lives for many.

The goal of this foundation is to keep doing what Steve Newman selflessly did, help kids-in-need. All donations go to students to help with furthering their education.

The 1st Annual Stephen J. Newman Foundation

The first annual Stephen J. Newman Foundation Walk was a huge success. We are incredibly grateful for all of our sponsors and everyone who participated. 

Mr. Newman was a deeply compassionate man who dedicated himself to supporting under privileged students, always ensuring they had the resources and encouragement they needed to succeed.He went out of his way to provide school supplies for my family and helped in any way he could.His kindness and selflessness left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate to know him. – Katlyn

It was an honor to have Mr. Newman as a mentor, he was like a father figure to me and took me under his wings through my high school years.  Every year he would take me to the Father-Daughter Dance and he would go out of his way to make me feel special with beautiful flowers, a memory I will cherish forever.  I’m grateful for the many valuable life lessons he taught me and his dedication to helping students succeed in life including me.  – Monica

Mr. Newman had a way of making everyone feel seen and supported, and I was lucky to experience that firsthand. He always looked out for me, whether it was helping me through challenges, pushing me to do better in track, or simply sharing a laugh. His encouragement and kindness shaped so much of my high school experience and beyond. No matter what I was going through, he was there—with advice, a joke, or just a reminder that I wasn’t alone. He wasn’t just a mentor—he was a true friend, someone who genuinely cared and always showed up. I had Mr Newman for Social Studies class at BFHS and he is one of the main reasons why I decided to become a teacher myself. I learned most in his class because he brought the content to real life through storytelling. Mr Newman made every student feel comfortable and seen in his class. I remember he would shake every single students’ hand before class each day, which acknowledged each and every one of us. I first met Steve my first year teaching.I was a young and impressionable young teacher who was learning the job.Steve did not tell me how to teach or what to do.He lived his values and just watching him work with students helped form my way of viewing students.He worked with everyone with respect and dignity.That informed how I work in this job.I try to live up to his standard every day.  – Tobey Reed

I entered teaching at a relatively older age, 38 years old, working with high school aged students who were diagnosed with learning and behavioral disabilities.Steve Newman was one of my first mentors.He is the one who taught me that building a relationship with a student is one of the most important skills to help you teach.Steve also taught me by his examples.He would show me in everyday behaviors and interactions with all students during various times in the day.I could see Steve interacting with students having fun and laughing at lunch, or managing any issues that the student was having during the school day.What did I see Steve Newman doing?He always treated everyone he was in contact with as a human being; complete with whatever emotions they were feeling at that time.He would always find some way to intertwine some humor into whatever was in front of him, respectfully and appropriately.This is why both children and adults flocked to Steve.He was a problem-solver and he was always going to do his best to be on your side and provide you with support and help.Isn’t that what we all want in a friend, in a teacher? Steve was just that, he was an educator, but he was also your friend, he was there to help. Everyone knew that too.  – Karen Spina
