The Heart Remembers…

Fred Garza Memorial Scholarship Fund:
Mr. Fred (Juan) Garza was an inspirational leader and advocate for his students’ education. He truly believed that higher education was power to a promising future. His pride for Harlandale ISD showed for 30+ years, as a dedicated Teacher, Coach, Vice Principal, and HR Director. He was beloved for his contagious smile, positive attitude, encouragement, and words of wisdom.

Mr. Garza was a cancer survivor; however, he untimely lost his 2nd battle to kidney cancer in January 2016. Through his fight, he never lost hope. He strongly believed that he could not be defeated; this was a result of his true character. His Harlandale family respected his character and passion for education. Even during Mr. Garza’s short term of dedication before his passing, the San Antonio C.A.N. High School saw the same character and passion from Mr. Garza by the impact he made on his students; therefore, our family has decided to continue his legacy through an Academic Scholarship for Harlandale ISD and San Antonio C.A.N High School seniors who wish to pursue a college education. We hope our efforts help pave the way for current and future students of Harlandale ISD and the San Antonio C.A.N High School.

Fred had strong bonds with family and was an inspiration to all of us. He was dearly loved by his daughters Kristin, Mallory, Shaina, and wife Montye. He was a fun loving Papaw to Grandchildren, Kali and Freddie. His bond with his parents, siblings, extended family and friends were just as strong. He made every one of us a better person. We dedicate this fund in his honor.
