The J. S. Townsley Memorial Fund honors our brother, Jared, who tragically lost his life too soon. Jared was a loving husband and son, father and brother, and friend to all. He loved his family and exploring the Northwest. J. was an avid and experienced climber of Mount Hood and other Northwest peaks. He summited Mount Hood many times, including the morning of February 6, 2012, but tragically fell on his descent.
Jared—most often called J.—brought happiness and joy to his friends and family. He was down to earth, loving, adventurous, smart, and very funny, bringing laughter to those he was with. Our memories are full of his caring nature, quiet wisdom, and quick wit. He leaves behind his wife and two children, who are his legacy.
J. loved working with computers and was highly successful in his field. He could often be found in his room at a young age, taking computers apart and rebuilding them. His other loves included the outdoors, skating, hiking, photography, and spending time with his family.
This fund honors Jared’s qualities and values. Thank you for supporting our cause and honoring J. In 2017, we will give to Portland area search and rescue groups, including Portland Mountain Rescue, made up of volunteers, who work to assist and educate climbers. In the future, our plans include supporting students enrolled in trade schools, apprenticeships, or training programs, honoring J.’s work ethic, aspirations, and values.
