About Angie

“I don’t know anyone else like her—an extraordinary woman.”

Angie Huso was born in Freeport, Illinois, on April 25, 1958, the second oldest of six siblings. Angie’s greatest love was Jesus. At Iowa State University, her roommate Connie shared the gospel with her and she began to follow Jesus. This led her to a community of Christ-followers who became lifelong friends, including her future husband, Dave. She and Dave married in 1981 and moved to Baltimore, where they became involved in their local church, caring for toddlers in the nursery, participating in small groups, and counseling engaged couples.

But that was just their visible ministry. Behind the scenes, they cared for countless individuals and families through the years, offering quiet encouragement and deep friendship, accompanied by excellent meals and lots of laughter—all grounded in Dave and Angie’s love for Jesus. Beyond investing in relationships, this outlook informed their financial decisions as well. Throughout their lives, they steadfastly supported a number of cherished causes, particularly, supporting the academic aspirations of young people, Christian mission work, and scientific research and discovery.

Angie’s second greatest love was her family. She and Dave were happily married for 34 years. At the time of his passing, Angie wrote “With a twinkle and a grin, Dave once told me I lived a charmed life. I scoffed, but in my heart I knew it was true. I am so very thankful for our years together.” Together they had four children, Nick, Tait, Walker, and Vienna. When the boys were little, Dave persuaded Angie to try homeschooling, which turned out to be ideal for a family of independent thinkers. They homeschooled for 25 years, all four children going on to graduate from Penn State University. Angie’s creativity as a homeschooler was boundless, and she helped her family appreciate all forms of beauty. She planned poetry parties, art days, and Christmas programs at local nursing homes. To be homeschooled by Angie was to be educated not just in the three Rs, but in all the liberal arts.

Homeschooling grew out of Angie’s love for children, and she was never far from them, even as her own kids grew older. Besides homeschooling, she cared for toddlers in her church’s learning center for 15 years, her kids and husband serving alongside her. In 2019, she began working in the nursery at The Calvert School, the local school that provided curriculum for her early years of homeschooling. She loved not only the children she cared for, but also their families, her kindness reaching far beyond the nursery walls.

Angie’s design skills were legendary; she could transform anything she touched. She saw potential where another person might see a jumble. Thrift stores and flea markets were inspiration and fodder for her creativity, and it was fascinating to see the found art she brought home and how she repurposed it to become something new, always useful and beautiful. She envisioned their extensive home renovation from start to finish, from its farmhouse siding to shiplap dining room walls, sourcing found materials from every corner of the mid-Atlantic and Facebook Marketplace.

For the last 41⁄2 years, Angie was a part-time pancreatic cancer patient who continued to pursue all the things she loved doing. She founded and ran a small antique business aptly named “Oh Look!” a phrase often uttered when she stopped to admire anything unique or beautiful. Appreciating art in all its forms, Angie was a booklover and faithful member of a Great Books club that met for 13 years. She read nearly 120 classics, never missing one book. She loved the theater and attended plays frequently, especially Chesapeake Shakespeare’s productions in their downtown theater as well as their annual summer outdoor events.

Memorial Fund Mission

This fund is created to honor the legacy of service and generosity that characterized the lives and marriage of Dave and Angie Huso. The funds raised through these donations, in combination with gifts from their estate, will be directed to the continued support of the causes and priorities that they valued throughout their remarkable lives.

These causes include:

1) Education and Scholarship

• • A portion of funds will establish an annual scholarship at Penn State University honoring their longstanding support of scholarly pursuits

2) Christian community and missions work through longitudinal partnerships 

• • Kupenda for the Children: An organization transforming the cultural stigma associated with disabilities in Kenya
  • Pioneers International: Missionaries seeking to spread the light of Christ to unreached people groups
  • Christian Veterinary Mission: Providing knowledge, skills, and expertise to strengthen agricultural communities and be a witness for Christ
  • Wycliffe Bible Translators: Ensuring the word of God is accessible to everyone

3) Funding for medical research at Johns Hopkins with a focus on translational pancreatic cancer initiatives
