Andy McDowell Foundation

Andy loved to adventure outside, plain and simple. There was a sincere gratitude that radiated from Andy after any day spent skiing or fishing – time that could only be made better by the company of his loved ones. If you were lucky enough to spend a day in the mountains with Andy, you would inevitably feel a contagious positivity, coupled with a belief that you were capable of accomplishing pretty much anything that Andy said you could do. This infectious enthusiasm wasn’t reserved for an elite few; anyone who was getting outside, living in the moment and pushing their limits was worthy of a big grin and spirited encouragement from Andy.

Coaching was a perfect place for Andy to share his love for skiing, encouraging his athletes to shift their focus from being nervous about results to having fun competing.  Didn’t podium but nailed a trick that you’ve been working on for months? You were the MVP in Andy’s eyes. His athletes have helped Andy’s spirit live on by cultivating a culture of positivity, unique skiing style, and crazy haircuts en masse.

The Andy McDowell Foundation continues the legacy of the organization’s namesake by fostering passion for the outdoors through access to snow sports for Tahoe-area youth. Any kid who is enthusiastic about time spent on the mountain should have the chance to get on the hill, regardless of their financial circumstances. Our mission is to open doors to snow sports for as many kids as possible – exactly how Andy would want it.
