Ann Schmittling Memorial Fund

     Ann Marie Schmittling was known for her bright gap-toothed smile, loving heart, brilliant sense of humor and the countless lives she touched.  Ann was a people person and thrived off of the connections and the stories of the people who came into her life.
     Her philosophy aligned with the words of Maya Angelou,  “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  Ann’s greatest gift was her genuine interest in other people. She cared, listened and was sincerely invested in the person she was with. Ann was all in.   
     Perhaps this trait was most evident in her career as a midwife, where she touched the lives of countless families in Northern Michigan communities.  Ann celebrated motherhood and could make anyone feel that they were the only one that mattered in the room. Ann possessed the ability to instill strength and confidence in mothers, and to listen and offer support and encouragement, whether it was their first or fifth baby.  Her bucket was always filled by the women and families she met and the babies she caught.
     “In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.” Ann loved and was loved by so many people in this world. She left a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.
     Giving and helping others was extremely important to Ann.  The family has set up a memorial fund in Ann’s name and donations will be used to support causes near and dear to Annie’s heart.
