ABOUT BYRON

Byron Nelson Blunk was a man of logic and action, characterized by a deep thirst for knowledge and a fearless spirit of adventure. Born in Houston, Texas, he developed an early passion for technology that led him to a full-ride scholarship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he graduated from the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management in 2005. His professional life was defined by a highly successful career as a technology specialist at major firms like Microsoft and Dell, eventually rising to the level of vice president at CGI. Yet, despite his professional achievements, Byron’s world revolved around his family—his wife, Jessica, and his son, Joe—with whom he shared countless adventures, from building Legos to traveling the world.

Our Mission

The Byron Blunk Foundation was born out of Byron’s resilience following his Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis in late 2021. Rather than retreating, Byron became an advocate, using his analytical mind to share clinical research and his personal journey to inspire others within the lung cancer community. He was a calming force of insight for fellow patients, demonstrating that it was possible to live a rich, meaningful life even while navigating a devastating illness. The foundation exists to carry forward this legacy of hope and strength, ensuring Byron’s commitment to living while managing the cancer journey continues.
