Gerald Puckett Memorial Fund

Gerald L. Puckett
Memorial Fund

The Gerald L. Puckett Memorial Scholarship, established in 2018, in honor of Gerald Puckett so he can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others for years to come. Gerald was a proud alumnus of MCHS and placed great emphasis on the value of higher education, though various life circumstances impeded his own pursuit of it. He graduated from MCHS as a member of the class of 1956. After graduation, he served as a dental technician in the United States Air Force until 1961 and a flight medic in the US Air Force Reserves from 1961 to 1981. He then retired from federal civil service at Tinker Air Force Base in 2000, with a total of 31 years of federal service. After retirement, Gerald spent most of his time with his wife, with whom he spent 44 wonderful years, his five children, and his multiple grandchildren. He had a tremendous passion for ancestry and was always excited to discover new family members, though he regularly welcomed those without family into his own family and loved them as his own. His greatest love was for God and family, and children were his greatest joy. He was a very gentle, kindhearted, and compassionate man who put others before himself.

As Gerald wished to be remembered by his love, strength, and hope, recipients of the scholarship must demonstrate through an essay how the concepts of love, strength, and hope have impacted their own lives. Recipients will be selected annually from high school seniors graduating from Midwest City High School in Midwest City, OK. Additionally, recipients must be in good academic standing with a B average or higher (or a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale). Scholarship awards are renewable for each consecutive fall and spring semester for which the recipient remains enrolled in a degree-granting institution of higher learning and maintains an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Renewable awards will be an amount equal to or greater than the initial award granted to the individual recipient, subject to availability of funds.

All scholarship funds will be provided directly to the institution of higher learning to go toward tuition and fees, and no scholarship funds will be given directly to the student. Relatives of Gerald L. Puckett are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
