Jimmy McGucken Memorial Fund

James “Jimmy” David McGucken was born on October 22, 1974 to his loving parents, Jim & Cindy McGucken.  He and his sister, Kristen Clausing (McGucken) were raised in Westlake, OH and attended St. Bernadette and Westlake schools.  He remained in the area and began his career with the phone company which spanned 19 years. During this time, he also joined the Marine Corps Reserves and married Christy Svagerko (McGucken).

When Jimmy was not working or serving his time in the military he watched his beloved Michigan Wolverines, attended concerts, listened to his favorite bands (Metallica, Motley Crue, Pearl Jam & Phish), golfed, attended sporting outings and spent time with family and friends.

Jimmy had a smile and laugh that would welcome anyone.  His laugh was so infectious especially when he was playing pranks on his family or friends.  He loved nothing more than to be silly and laugh, especially with his nephew, Robbie Clausing.  He also loved to dance whether it was in the house or at a special event. It never failed when Justin Timberlake was on that he would be dancing around the room.

Jimmy suffered from PTSD, depression and anxiety which eventually led him to his battle with addiction.  Anyone who knew him would have never imagined that addiction would take over his life. But this is why we want to tell his story so that others understand addiction has no boundaries and does not discriminate. Addiction is a disease and it not only impacts the addict but the family and friends who are there to support them.

Jimmy worked a recovery program and fought hard for many years.  But unfortunately lost his battle on January 20, 2018.

We created the Jimmy McGucken Memorial Fund to honor Jimmy’s legacy and to educate others that addiction is a disease.  All funds will be used to support recovery, education and counseling programs for those battling addiction and the family and friends that support them.
