Julie Sourisa Memorial Art Fund

A legacy of hope, courage and magic…

Established March 2020, the Julie Sourisa Memorial Art Fund celebrates and honors the extraordinary life and legacy of Julie Sourisa. In ’21, Julie’s memorial partnered with the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park to support their youth art programs, where students are encouraged to transform themselves and their surrounding world through new educational experiences and creative expression.

A real-life superhero, Julie found healing and joy through adventure and creativity. Through her art, she discovered magic that would make the world… and children… smile. A resident of sunny San Diego for many years, Julie’s imagination especially took flight during excursions to Balboa Park, a world-class cultural center. This makes the San Diego Museum of Art an excellent partner.

“Julie Sou” (as she’s affectionately known) was born in Anchorage, Alaska October 6, 1984 and passed away March 2, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas after a nearly 10-year battle with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Julie was known for her courage, zest for life, kindness toward others and endearing sense of humor. Julie loved her family and friends as well as travel, the arts, fashion, trips to the beach, gourmet food, Disneyland, Comic Con, Halloween, music festivals and fabulous shoes. In ’17, she launched her Art by Julie Sourisa boutique, earning recognition and gaining popularity for her illustrations, watercolors, paintings and clothing. In ’19, Julie was honored by Susan G. Komen San Antonio to be the featured artist at their More Than Pink Tower Lighting event, however—due to hospitalization—she was unable to attend her own show. On her behalf, family and friends carried the torch and helped ensure it was a most successful show.

Whether drawing illustrations for kids or participating in cosplay, Julie’s inspirational life showed others how to check their troubles at the door… let their imaginations soar… and live their best, most magical life.

The magical Julie Sou will be forever missed by everyone who knew her… as a bright ray of sunshine!
