Randall D Walters "Randyland" Memorial Fund

The Randall D Walters “Randyland” Memorial Fund, established in 2019, is a tribute to the memory of our dear husband, loving father and ecstatic grandpa to be, Randy. Distributions will be awarded to two entities; the City of Grand Rapids Fire Department for a fire fighters memorial (Monies may instead be directed to other fire safety initiatives that the Grand Rapids Fire Department deems important for community safety) and The Heart of Medicine for continued medical missions to Haiti.

Randy wanted to be a firefighter from the time he was a little boy. He would play “Emergency” backing his bicycle in the garage like it was a fire truck and following fire trucks to fires and accidents on his bike. His path as a firefighter was sealed one night as a young child when the next door neighbor’s house burned down and one of the children did not survive. He was a fierce proponent of smoke detectors, family plan for escape in event of fire and sleeping with bedroom doors closed.

After retiring from the fire department Randy’s love of service did not stop. He returned to school and became a Physician Assistant. His giving spirit continued as we began volunteering in Haiti with a non-profit to provide needed medical care to areas that rarely have medical access.
