Rod Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund
In life, Rod Bennett was a much-loved teacher and mentor dedicated to guiding his young music and math students at Arroyo Seco Junior High School in Valencia, California, on their journey through learning.
The new Rod Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund provides a way for Rod to continue his mission, even after his tragic death on May 25, 2016. (Read his obituary.)
Rod was just 53, and as a teacher, musician, sportsman, traveler and all-around wonderful human being had so much life ahead to live, so much more to give.
Established by Valerie Pryor as a tribute to her late husband, the fund provides financial aid to college-bound high school seniors in the Santa Clarita Valley’s Wm. S. Hart Union School District to help further their studies.
The only other requirement is that applicants have studied music in a Hart District Junior high school or high school.
“As a math and music teacher, Rod gave so much to the Santa Clarita community, and I want to honor him by continuing to give in his name,” Pryor said.
“Music and teaching meant so much to him, and teaching the students music and seeing them discover and grow in music meant a lot to him,” she said. “I want to continue his contributions to the community.”
Through the Rod Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund, a revered teacher and loving husband’s legacy will live on through the students chosen to receive these special grants. We invite you to donate today.
“By donating to this fund, especially during the holidays, people can give the gift of education and especially music education to deserving students who embody the love for and dedication to music that was so much a part of Rod’s life,” Pryor said.
“My hope, my mission, is that through these students, and with the generosity and support of this trust fund by those who cared for Rod, his legacy will continue to make music for generations.”
