Scott Roberson Memorial Scholarship Fund

About Scott Roberson

Scott Michael Roberson was killed on December 30, 2009 attempting to stop a suicide bomber while serving his country as a CIA security officer in Khost, Afghanistan.

Born on July 3, 1970 in Akron, Ohio, Scott and his family moved to Tolland, Connecticut and Scott soon became an active member of the community. He joined the Boy Scouts and played on local soccer, basketball and baseball teams. In later years, he played on the Tolland High School (THS) soccer and basketball teams and was an enthusiastic member of the ski club. He also worked in the community as a girls’ basketball coach, girls’ softball umpire, and staff member at Crandall Park. No matter what his role, his sense of humor and outgoing personality made him an unforgettable part of any group.

Though the Robersons moved away from Tolland in 1986, Scott maintained his close friendships with THS classmates and even attended the THS Class of 1988 20-year reunion.

Scott’s travels took him to several different states and nations, but no matter where he lived, Scott was dedicated to serving his country and community. His professional duties included working as a detective with the Atlanta Police Department; training police officers as part of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo; providing security for personnel working in Iraq and Afghanistan; and serving as an officer for the Central Intelligence Agency.

After Scott’s death, the Tolland community ensured his legacy of service would not be forgotten by dedicating a bench in his honor at Crandall Park. In recognition of Scott’s dedication to serving others and in appreciation for the many ways our Tolland friends have honored Scott’s memory, the Roberson family has created the Scott M. Roberson Memorial Fund to provide financial assistance to Tolland High School graduates who are pursuing a 2-year or 4-year undergraduate degree and have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service.
