The Shobha Contractor Memorial Fund celebrates and honors the extraordinary life and legacy of Shobha Contractor.
Shobha was widely admired for her gracious spirit, warm smile and generous personality. Besides spending time with her family and friends, she was passionate about international travel, Bollywood movies, music, cooking, and national politics.
Shobha Contractor passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 near her home in Hillsborough, NJ where she lived with her family for nearly 40 years. She was 77. Shobha was born on November 15, 1943 in Mumbai, India. She graduated from Mithibai College in 1964 with an Economics major before immigrating to the United States in 1970. After living in Hoboken and Passaic, she settled in Hillsborough in 1982. Shobha worked for many years in Hillsborough as a bank teller at New Brunswick Savings Bank, and later at Provident Savings Bank. She later also worked as a sales associate at Macy’s in Bridgewater.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Kanti Contractor, and 2 children: her son Ashish Contractor and his wife Amy Lung Contractor, and her daughter Kavita Contractor Morris and her husband Jason Morris; and her five grandchildren, Austin Contractor, Aiden Contractor, Adrian Contractor, Elijah Morris and Alisha Morris.
Shobha will be forever missed by everyone who knew her… and through her family, friends and this Memorial Fund, her legacy will live on.
About the Fund
The Shobha Contractor Memorial Fund will focus will annually fund 2 memorial scholarships in the name of Shobha Contractor at Hillsborough High School, as well make other annual grants to charities in Somerset County, focused on food insecurity, education and woman’s issues. Donations are encouraged to help contribute to worthwhile causes encouraged by Shobha, and to extend her legacy.
