The John Nicholas Taglienti Memorial Scholarship

John Nicholas Taglienti, or JT, graduated from William Floyd High School in 2005 and was a proud member of Floyd’s Varsity Baseball Team. He attended SUNY Old Westbury, where he played Baseball and majored in Education. After graduation, he taught and coached at PS306 in the Bronx. He truly had a passion for teaching–he worked tirelessly to plan his lessons, to keep the kids engaged, and to help them ace their State tests. He absolutely loved his students. While teaching and earning his Master’s in Education at Stony Brook, he juggled the roles of devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and nephew with ease. JT was magnetic and bigger than life, and he profoundly touched all those around him.

The John Nicholas Taglienti Memorial Fund, established in 2018, is a tribute to the memory of John Taglienti “JT”. Distributions are awarded annually to a William Floyd senior student athlete in support of their efforts to pursue a teaching career. The recipient of the John Nicholas Taglienti Memorial Scholarship is given to the student who best embodies his two passions: teaching and athletics. It is our hope that we can inspire a future teacher who has as much passion for education as JT had, and thus continue his legacy.

The John Nicholas Taglienti Memorial Scholarship will be granted to a William Floyd senior who has participated in a varsity sport for at least 1 year, and who plans to pursue a career in elementary or high school education at a 4-year college or university.  In an approximately 1-2 page essay, the candidate should describe their athletic and academic achievements, their activities devoted to youth education or enrichment, and their future career aspirations.
