Thank you for your 2019 sponsorship of the Emily Johnson “Play it Forward” Fund.

In November 2008, our community lost a dynamic young woman, Emily Johnson, a student at Coal Ridge High School. Emily cared for others and made a difference in the world. She was passionate about the sport of soccer, and to honor her memory and reinforce that passion in others, friends and family are once again organizing the Play It Forward 3v3 Soccer Tournament at Gates Soccer Park at Colorado Mountain College-Spring Valley Campus in Glenwood Springs. The 12^th Annual Tournament will be held on June 6, 2020.

Last year, with the generosity of our sponsors and the community, we had the pleasure of presenting four $2,000 scholarships. The CRHS creativity scholarship was awarded to Isabelle Brintnall, the CRHS soccer scholarship was awarded to Amanda McPherson, and the valley wide soccer scholarship to Julia Mulhall from Glenwood Springs High School. In March 2018 we lost a great friend and supporter of our tournament, Duane Guettler. His family asked for donations to Em’s fund in his honor, allowing us to offer our 4th scholarship in his name, the winner was Adriana Varga. Also, in Emily’s spirit we donated $1,000 to local charities.

Because of the success of the June 2019 tournament and fundraising we will award four $2,000 scholarships to the graduating class of 2020, bringing our eleven-year total to $103,000 in scholarships and $16,500 to local and global charities…WOW!

In order to repeat this success, we continue to seek financial assistance from our sponsors. The tournament is a volunteer effort. Sponsor contributions will be used to purchase/replace tournament materials such as goals, field paint, and advertising. All money not used in the staging of the tournament will be funneled into the scholarship fund. Scholarship amounts are determined by the success of our fundraising. In addition, we would again like to honor Emily’s spirit by contributing to a local and/or global charity.

The tournament committee has chosen to recycle unused t-shirts from previous years. This will be an opportunity to save money for future scholarships. We will not be printing new t-shirts this year. We have brainstormed ways to honor your gifts. Below are the contribution levels (in-kind value included):

$500 and above: If we receive your contribution by March 15^th, we will include your name/business on the event poster and all subsequent advertising.

$250 and above: We will highlight your business or person on our social media platforms. Please email a small bio to [email protected]. Include pictures and/or logos.

$100 and above: Your name/business will be on the event sponsor board.

All donations will be publically thanked in the Glenwood Post Independent.

All contributions are tax deductible as funds will be administered through CharitySmith, a 501c3 public charity organization, federal tax id 87-0636433.  Please make all checks payable to Emily Johnson Fund and payment may be sent to:
