Alan Dale Anderson, also known as Big Al or Boom, passed away on May 19, 2018 at the young age of 54 in Atlanta GA. Alan was born on October 25, 1963 to Early James Anderson and Laura Murphy, in Madison FL where he was also raised. In his teenage years he proudly told stories of working as a chicken catcher, pecan picker and the resident lawn mower. He graduated from Madison High school with the Class of 1981 and moved to Tampa in 1985 where he was hired by Hillsborough Country Fire Rescue on 9/29/85. He was promoted to Driver Engineer, Captain and Battalion Chief in 2014. He formally retired in 2017.

Throughout his years at HCFR, Alan was dedicated to working and mentoring young men and women passionate about careers in Fire Rescue. Alan worked in the Youth Summer Camp Program and was also an adjunct training instructor at the Fire Academy. He often spoke at local schools about careers in fire service and would help anyone that showed a passion for his chosen career. Alan was a member of the IAFF and IABPFF. Alan was selected by the Chief to join Morris and McDaniel, Inc as a Fire Chief that traveled the country and sat on the hiring panel for Fire Departments seeking equal opportunities for minority candidates.

A portion of the proceeds for this memorial fund will provide scholarships to young, dedicated & deserving members of our community seeking careers in the fire service.
