The Hallelujah Helen (1942 – 2008) Memorial Fund has been established to honor our beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. Hallelujah Helen’s memorial fund was created to assist families in sending their child to any away from home summer camp. Distributions will be awarded annually to families showing a financial need and voted upon by the Board.
About Hallelujah Helen
Helen Christine Wennekamp, aka Hallelujah Helen, was born July 13, 1942 in Los Angeles, California the daughter of Neal and Chris Dundas. She married Chuck Wennekamp, February 4, 1961 while attending the University of Idaho. She and Chuck had 4 boys, Curt, Daniel, Wynn and Wayne. She served as a children’s minister in Seattle and Albuquerque for 41 years. She was an artist, painter, and teacher of her craft.
In the many years of serving as a children’s pastor, she and Chuck had many opportunities to take children to summer camp; Camp Shiloh, Hallelujah Helen’s camp which she ran for about 10 years, or other Christian summer camps. When parents couldn’t afford to send their child or children, Hallelujah Helen held fundraisers or she and Chuck paid for the children to go themselves.
Helen always believed the kids got so much out of camp, away from any distractions of every day life, be it friends, school and even, in some cases, family situations; that she wanted as many kids to experience camp as possible. To continue her legacy, we have started the Hallelujah Helen memorial fund.
